Send those who unlawfully cross the border packing back home

To the Editor:

Illegal immigrants turning to crime should not be a shock to anyone. Least of all to many of our selfish, power hungry politicians, of both parties and at all levels of government, that routinely trade their sworn duty to uphold the existing laws of this nation in exchange for votes.

As you will notice above, I called this unlawful group of invaders illegal immigrants. That is because that is what they are. Referring to them as undocumented workers” is a sham. These people are here illegally. Start acknowledging that and address them appropriately. Your tax dollars are paying for their stay, so call them by the correct term. Better yet, intentionally insult them with the right term.

Back in 2005 and 2006, many in the blogging community were warning their fellow citizens that housing was a huge bubble destined to ultimately pop and lay waste to the economy as well as to the folks that were the last to purchase homes during the drunken, speculative real estate party. These same folks also warned that one of the huge side effects of the rampant overbuilding was the illegal immigration time bomb. When they sounded the alarm that many of these illegal immigrants building this oversupply of homes and performing the accompanying contract work such as landscaping would ultimately become unemployed and turn to crime to survive, many chose to label them as loons to keep the party going as long as possible and reap their own greedy profits. Sadly, there is nothing pleasant about saying "I told you so" once people are hurt or getting hurt.

During the most recent County Commissioner race, I asked each of the candidates to provide a response to the following questions:

1. What is your stance on the illegal immigration issue facing this country?

2. How do you propose solving it?

3. Do you believe St. Mary's County has an illegal immigration problem?

4. Have you observed the exploding Latino population in the Lexington  Park area, and how would you account for it due to the extremely high  cost of living in this county; when in contrast many of these workers are performing either landscape or construction jobs that typically  do not earn high wages?

5. Do you support enacting legislation that will deter and punish employers and landlords from hiring and housing illegal immigrants to stop this problem in St. Mary's County?

These questions were important to me as a voter. Of those elected, only Commissioner Larry Jarboe was willing to respond. That response was harsh and quick. He expressed a strong distaste for illegal immigration and advocated tough penalties. He used words like "hard labor." I voted for the man. He is a great American serving his county, state, and nation. I cannot say that for the others because they never stood up and told me what they stand for.

While true patriots in our neighboring states of Virginia and Pennsylvania have taken a stand against illegal immigration most of Maryland has done nothing other than become a sanctuary for the illegal's they have chased from their midst. That saddens me.

Each week I do what I consider as a small but important task for this nation. I do not have to leave home to do it. I do not have to get out of my desk chair to do it. I receive no pay for it. It does not require any writing skills, or any type of skill whatsoever. It does not cost me any money, only a few minutes of my time. I consider it a privilege to do it. What is it that I do? I send free faxes to our politicians using www.numbersusa.com to express my distaste about their lack of action concerning illegal immigration. These faxes have been critical in stopping the politicians from granting amnesty and citizenship to our illegal invaders that do not mind borrowing your Social Security number and stealing jobs from Americans.

Every couple of months I get a letter from Congressman Steny Hoyer in response to the faxes I send using NumbersUSA. It is always the same letter, but I do diligently and with hope check to make sure the letters have not changed before promptly throwing them in the trash. The only thing that sticks in my head about each of those letters is the part where he tells me something to the effect of "it is important to him that Maryland businesses have enough workers." My problem with his attitude and politics is that he does not say, "it is important to him that Maryland workers have enough workers that are U.S citizens or that they have some paperwork authorizing them to be here if they are not citizens."

Do not mistake that last comment as me not being appreciative of the many great things that Congressman Hoyer does for Southern Maryland. I just wish that he would ensure that the money he brings into the region is spent solely paying for worker of U.S citizenship and on projects for U.S citizens. Do not build us a $2 million dollar bridge at Saint Mary’s college, using contractors that employ illegal immigrants, for the children of illegal immigrants that received in-state tuition.

I recently terminated my affiliation with either political party because I could no longer identify with them. I have always considered the Democrat party to symbolize a helping hand for all Americans. For example, all Americans should have health care. On the other hand, the Republicans have always struck me as having a tough, pull your-self up by your bootstraps approach to life. They tend to favor big business and a strong military. In the end, the republicans talk tough about illegal immigration, but they do little to stop it. We get a token raid here and there, but the employers rarely ever go to jail or face charges. The same goes for the Democrats. They talk about helping Americans and getting everyone health care, but then they turn around and spend our money on people that swam across the Rio Grande River to have their babies here free. To add insult to injury, these politicians’ standby and do nothing about the interpretational abuse of the Constitution to grant these illegal anchor babies U.S citizenship. In the end, they send us the bill to educate and care for them. I cannot identify with this disgusting behavior, or vote for those that do. My hope is that you no longer will either.

Another one of my favorite activities is to watch when our local law enforcement catches illegal immigrants in the Lexington Park area. We get these triumphant news stories proclaiming, “Police apprehended two illegal immigrants committing such and such crimes etc.” Does anybody in the press actually follow the complete case from start to finish? Are these illegal immigrants deported for their crimes and immigration status, or are they released with a court date and promptly disappear? Does anyone report who the landlords are that have been housing them? Does anyone report who the companies are that have been employing them? Personally, I would like to see this reported so I can boycott their businesses.

Shall we talk about the churches next? The Catholic Church gets an honorable mention here. What business does the church have harboring illegal immigrants and teaching them to speak English? The church has the same problems that the Democrats do; they have forgotten to take care of their own flock first. Clergy and members that partake in this illegal activity deserve persecution and prosecution for protecting, educating, and harboring these people.

How is illegal immigration affecting our Southern Maryland schools? I have yet to see it discussed in the press. How many illegal immigrant children do we have? How much is it costing us? Do you believe as I do that it is a pure crock that the Federal Government requires states to educate these children regardless of their citizenship status?

Are you sick and tired of the Federal and State governments taking turns pointing their fingers at each other to justify their inaction over illegal immigration? Are you even sicker of the advocates for amnesty and those that profit from illegal immigration using this to protect these illegal invaders? I have read Roy Dyson complain that the Real ID Act would make it tougher on senior citizens to renew their drivers license. I have never heard Roy mention the effect it would have on slowing illegal immigration.

Are you disgusted that law enforcement cannot get ICE to take the illegal immigrants that they catch? If Sheriff Joe Arpaio out in Arizona can put American criminals in tents and pink underwear out in the desert for .95 cents per day, then I am confused as to why the federal government cannot lock up illegal immigrants in a similar manner until they are deported.

Do you think it is strange that we can monitor all sorts of financial transactions to detect terrorism, but yet any illegal immigrant can walk into Wal-Mart or Western Union and wire their illegal financial gains home all day long?

How do you feel about the nonprofit community helping illegal immigrants to become citizens or teaching them English, so they can get your job? Is that OK with you? Do you support it? Only in America can you have a tax-exempt business, where you set whatever salary you choose for yourself that helps people break the law while you profit from it. Illegal immigrants are taking over and exploiting this great nation without firing a single shot simply by exploiting our generosity and stupid laws.

Does it bother you that the foreclosure next door that caused your home value to plummet belonged to an illegal immigrant family that simply got in their car and drove back to Mexico after losing their jobs? How do you feel about our financial institutions giving loans worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to people that were not even American citizens?

How many of you have not raised large families because you chose to be responsible and provide a quality upbringing for the children you did have versus having a bunch of kids and a low quality lifestyle? Yet your hard-earned tax dollars support free births and education for illegal immigrant children. Have you ever noticed the little cards on the counter at Saint Mary’s Hospital? They give you a number to contact if you cannot pay your bill. The cards are in English and Spanish. Do you think they ask if you are an illegal immigrant?

How about all that slick rhetoric designed to get you to embrace illegal immigration with endless statements in media stories such as “illegal immigrants will not report crimes if they are forced to prove their citizenship in your community. For added measure, they will often give some tear jerking example such as the rape of 11-year-old daughter of an illegal immigrant by some evil American. They then go on to say the family is scared to report the crime out of fear of deportation as justification of tolerating illegal immigration in your community. Let us get this straight from my point of view. As a parent, YOU knowingly and illegally bring your children to MY foreign country, or have the kids here and let us pay for them, and then lay the blame and shame on US for something happening to YOU or THEM? Oh, and you cannot report it because you are not here legally. Does anybody read the news about what goes on down along the Mexican/Texas border? You should! Once a week or so the drug dealers cut off the heads of their rival gangs or shoot the newest police chief. Do you want your standard of living reduced to that so the rich folks can have a gardener? How many of you can afford a gardener? The number of middle class taxpayers outnumbers the number of rich taxpayers.

How many of you work on PAX River? Let me ask you this, what ethnic group are the landscapers on base predominantly made up of? The last good-sized landscaping crew that I personally witnessed working was largely comprised of blacks. Outside the gate, the contractors doing landscaping work for the County appear largely Hispanic. Why is that? Could it be because we have much stricter standards to work on PAX River than a County park or office building? Could it be that you actually have to be an American to cut Navy grass? That is not to say that we have a shortage of high profile incidents involving illegal immigrants getting caught working on military installations. It does however beg the question, do Maryland Counties verify if their contractors are actually U. S citizens? Do you believe they should? I think so.

That last paragraph brings us to the biggest injustice of all against the American people concerning illegal immigration. It is also a big part of our crime problem. Here in America, we have citizens that are in the lowest tier of our society already. Every society does. I do not say this in a degrading manner but it is a reality. We cannot and do not need to import their third world equivalent to do the jobs they are entitled to have. If you do not graduate high school, you cannot be an Aircraft Engineer on PAX River. If you just walked out of jail with a drug and weapons conviction, you cannot be an attorney. Years ago these things did not mean that you could not do an honest day’s work to support yourself and your family in one of the so-called jobs that Americans do not want to do. Thanks however, to greedy employers, an almost complete lack of law enforcement, and illegal immigration, your odds of doing the right thing and surviving, let alone prospering, are now much tougher. After all, how can you start out as a carpenter and ultimately become a builder when your competition is a crew of illegal aliens that are earning half of the salary that you need to survive? How can you survive as a competitor business and take care of your workers when the competition does not pay taxes or things such as workers compensation? Or worse yet, they employ what appears to be legal workers using fake or other people’s Social Security numbers and pay these workers lower wages because they know they will not complain.

There is your requested feedback. I hope it is not too harsh for your readers.

Name withheld to deny those that will label me as a racist the privilege because I stood up against illegal immigration!
