Rental Car Torched
Van overturned; brush
fires abound
INDIAN
HEAD (July 21) --- The
Maryland Fire Marshal’s
office reports that
someone set a rental car
afire outside a
residence on Mattingly
Ave. in Indian Head at
about 6 am on Saturday,
July 21st.
The fire
caused $12,000 damage to
the 2006 Pontiac Grand
Am, according to Deputy
State Fire Marshal
Jeffery Frye.
Six
firefighters from Indian
Head responded toe the
blaze and brought the
fire under control in
about 10 minutes.

about who torched the
vehicle can be made to
the State Fire Marshal’s
Office at 443-550-6832.
In other
fire and rescue news,
one person was flown
from the scene of a
single car wreck on Rt.
4 in Huntingtown where a
van overturned in late
afternoon.
Second
District Volunteers
responded to a field
fire on the Boothe farm
in Drayden at about 1 pm
while brush units from
Bay
District
and Hollywood assisted
Leonardtown in putting
out a large hayfield
fire at Maryland Rock.
The fire burned out
several acres of land
and may have threatened
a vehicle.
According
to Maryland State Fire
Marshal W. Faron Taylor
many field and woods
fires originate from
careless outdoor burning
and from carelessly
discarded smoking
materials. He urged
smokers to not toss
cigarette butts from
vehicles but to use
ashtrays.

Modern Day Hatfield's &
McCoy's Feud
LEXINGTON PARK (July
19, 2007) -- Deputy
State Fire Marshals have
charged a 33-year-old
St. Mary’s County woman
in connection with an
April 7, 2007 dwelling
fire in Lexington Park.
Yvette Lee Brooks was
charged with first
degree arson, second
degree malicious
burning, and reckless
endangerment in the fire
that damaged a townhouse
at 21533 Old Missouri
Avenue in Lexington
Park.
The investigation
revealed the defendant
poured and lit an
ignitable liquid onto
the front door of the
residence occupied by
Carol McCarthy. Ms.
McCarthy was able to
quickly discover and
extinguish the 3:30 a.m.
fire. Damages were
estimated at $500. A
neighbor dispute was
determined to be the
motive for the fire.
Brooks was taken into
custody earlier today
without incident. She
remains at the St.
Mary’s County Detention
Center awaiting a bail
review.
