Natural Resources Police Recover body of missing boater
Wenona, Maryland (January 15, 2010) – The Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) recovered the body of a missing boater a half mile south of Wenona Harbor, on Beach Point. The body was discovered by hunters waterfowl hunting in the area.
The body was identified as Brian L. Wagner of Salisbury, Md. Wagner went missing after he fell off his vessel on January 4, 2010.
The body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy. The NRP Special Operations Division is continuing an investigation into the cause of the fatal boat accident.
Wenona, Maryland (January 5, 2010) – The Maryland Natural Resources Police are investigating a boating accident that occurred on January 4, 2009 at approximately 6:00 pm in Tangier Sound, near the Wenona Boat Harbor in Somerset County.
Even though no body has yet been discovered, police say that the presumed drowned boater is dead. Given the frigid water and air temperatures, a person can be revived it under certain circumstances but that would require the discovery and recovery of the body, which has not been the case in this instance. Thus the guess of police that a fatality has occurred is a pretty good one.
A 32’ Elzy Fishing boat was north bound in Tangier Sound, when the owner of the vessel, Brian L. Wagner, age 37 of Salisbury fell overboard. The other person on board the vessel attempted and was unsuccessful in retrieving Mr. Wagner. Mr Wagner is missing and presumed drowned. Mr. Wagner was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.
Units from the Maryland State Police Aviation, United States Coast Guard, and the Deal Island/Chance Volunteer Fire Company assisted with the search. The search for the victim was concluded at midnight and will resume at first light.
The Natural Resources Police Special Operation Division is continuing the investigation.
