BALTIMORE -
A Coast Guard crew from Station
Annapolis, Md., med-evaced an injured
man following a boating accident near
Thomas Point Lighthouse Sunday.
Injured was Jesse Lee Rhode, 45, from
Upper Marlboro, Md.
At
about 1:30 p.m., Coast Guard Sector
Baltimore watchstanders were notified
via marine band radio by a person aboard
the Tiger Stripe, a 40-foot pleasure
craft, reporting that they were involved
in an accident with a 19-foot pleasure
craft in the vicinity of Thomas Point
Lighthouse in the Chesapeake Bay.
Approximately 10 minutes later, a
25-foot response boat crew from Station
Annapolis was on scene and medevaced
Rhode back to the station where he was
met by local emergency medical
personnel.
A
Maryland State Police helicopter crew
landed at the station and transported
Rhode to Baltimore Shock Trauma with
injuries to his arm and hand.
Maryland Natural Resource Police has the
lead in the investigation.
The
Coast Guard encourages the use of marine
band radios as a way to quickly and
effectively call for help if an
emergency situation should arise while
on the water. By improving your
communication capabilities with
rescuers, your chances of getting the
assistance you need in a timely manner
is greatly improved.
