

JUVENILE
CHARGED FOR TAMPERING
WITH FIRE PROTECTION EQUIPMENT
Cheltenham
(June 29, 2007) – The State Fire Marshal’s Office has charged a
fourteen year old male for tampering with fire protection
equipment at the Cheltenham Youth Facility. The juvenile
activated a fire sprinkler head in his holding cell causing the
cell to flood. The 7 a.m. incident occurred at 11001 Frank
Tippett Road, Cheltenham.
The operations of the juvenile detention center were unaffected
by this incident. Damage to the facility is estimated to have
been $50. There was no fire department response to the incident.
The juvenile was charged with activating a false fire alarm,
tampering with fire protection equipment, and destruction of
property. The Department of Juvenile Services will be following
up with the juvenile for further action. He remains in custody
at the detention facility.
