An Entertainer Who Takes the
Time to
Thank Veterans for Their
Service
To the Editor:
A friend sent this to me.
Felt the need to
share....and yes, I am a
veteran of
Viet Nam and the bombings in
Germany and hijackings in
the Med in the 80's. If UPS/MBE
hadn't taken much of my
life, I would have
volunteered to go on early
on Desert Storm but
instead supported the
efforts there as a R&D, T&E
engineer for the Navy and
Air Force by
making the weapons I tested
the very best possible. Age
would keep me from Iraq and
Afghanistan now. And no I do
not believe in this war but
willingly support my fellow
military men and women who
have answered the call,
regardless of how the war
was contrived.
I salute each and every one
of the personally, each day
I live. They are the reason
I am free.

Oh, and yes, the follow is
true. It has been verified.
On Saturday, 5/10/08, I
went to see Gary Puckett at
the Hard Rock Casino in
Biloxi. If you don't know
who he is, he is a singer
from the 1960's
with such hits as "Young
Girl," "Woman, Woman," and
many
others. I didn't realize
this, but from 1967-1969 his
records with his then
band, "The Union Gap,"
outsold even the Beatles!
But, that's not
why I am sending out this
email.
At one point during
his show, he asked his band
to stop playing. He then
asked the Veterans in the
audience to stand up. When
approximately 100 men and
women stood, he first asked
the remaining audience to
applaud these proud
military veterans for
defending our country and
our rights, to which the
audience strongly
responded. Then, he asked
the veterans to line up in
front of
his stage(if they wanted to,
and approximately 50 of them
did so), and he went
and shook every one of their
hands, thanking them
individually for what they
had
done to protect and serve
our country! He then told
the audience we needed to
do the same, since they were
the reason we lived in a
free country where we
could go to places like the
Hard Rock and enjoy that
type of freedom and
entertainment. Again, not
only applause, but a
standing ovation.
If you're a veteran,
I thank you by sending you
this email. If not,
but know a veteran, please
pass this on to them and
thank them as Gary Puckett
did.
Nice to know not all
show business types forget
that they're Americans
too...
