of armed robbery at Leonardtown
dental office died of fright
LEONARDTOWN (June
22, 2008) UPDATE: The deceased
victim, who was located having chest pains in the Dabbs
Dental Building in Leonardtown on June 20th was
Billy Gene Gurley, 75 years old, from Lexington Park. St.
Mary’s County BCI detectives are continuing the
investigation into Mr. Gurley’s death.
UPDATE .... A Hispanic male wearing a dark hoodie robbed
an elderly man and left him in the parking lot of the
dental office of Dr. Dabbs, at the intersection of Rt. 5
and Rt. 234 just north of Leonardtown. The robbery
included swiping a class ring from one victim. The
fleet-footed felon then beat feat at about 1 pm.
Police converged on the area, checking dumpsters,
barns and nearby businesses. The
75-year-old victim was reported to be having trouble
breathing....more details later....a track behind
Dunkirk Supply led to a nearby woods where several
Latinos were working....police now report that the
75-year-old victim who was robbed in the parking lot of
Dr. Dabb's office died shortly after the robbery.
He had been having trouble breathing but managed to give
police a description of the robber, according to St.
Mary's Sheriff's Lt. Ricky Burris.
St. Mary's Sheriff Tim Cameron told ST. MARY'S TODAY
that the crime is more complicated than it appears on
the surface and that police now believe it's possible
the crime might have taken place elsewhere and they are
exploring many leads.
