Police say gunman blasted man at party and then killed himself

NEWBURG ---  Charles County cops were looking for a dangerous would-be killer who should be considered armed and dangerous but a local farmer found a dead body in his barn and now police report that he had killed himself.

Police report that on June 15 at 8:47 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 11700 block of Hemingley Place in Newburg for the report of a shooting. The investigation revealed Derrick Thomas Pulliam, 20, of Brandywine and the victim, a 23-year-old Waldorf man, were attending a gathering when they began to argue.

During the argument, Pulliam brandished a handgun and shot the victim. After the shooting, Pulliam fled the scene.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office reports it has determined the man wanted for a shooting which occurred June 15 has died in an apparent suicide.

Derrick Thomas Pulliam, 20, of Brandywine, was found deceased on June 17 at 12:38 p.m. in a barn adjacent to the neighborhood where the shooting took place. A preliminary death investigation indicates the suicide likely occurred shortly after the shooting.

Officers searched the area but could not locate him. The victim was flown by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Prince George’s Hospital Center where he is expected to survive his injuries. Detectives obtained a warrant for Pulliam’s arrest charging him with attempted second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, using a handgun in the commission of a violent crime and reckless endangerment.

Now police will be canceling their warrants.
