Calvert man killed in 3 vehicle crash

SUNDERLAND (Oct. 26, 2009) --- Calvert Sheriff's officers report that on October 24 at approximately 1:00 p.m. members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team (CRT) and the Maryland State Police responded to the intersection of Md. Rt. 2 (Solomons Island Road) and Kent Road in Sunderland for a report of a serious motor vehicle crash involving three vehicles.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a tan 1995 Nissan Altima was traveling north on Md. Rt. 2 and was in the process of making a left turn onto westbound Kent Road.

The operator of the 1995 Nissan Altima was yielding to the southbound traffic on Md. Rt. 2 when his vehicle was struck by a 1994 Toyota Corolla Station Wagon in a rear-end type collision causing the 1995 Nissan Altima to enter the southbound lane of Md. Rt. 2.

The 1995 Nissan Altima was subsequently struck by a 2004 Ford Explorer which was traveling south on Md. Rt. 2.

Upon impact with the 2004 Ford Explorer the 1995 Nissan Altima was redirected in a southwesterly direction and came to a final rest in the southbound lane culvert of Md. Rt. 2.

The operator of the 1995 Nissan Altima, identified as Glenn Eugene Holland, 46, of Sunderland, sustained mortal injuries and was pronounced dead at Calvert Memorial Hospital by the Emergency Room staff.  Mr. Holland was the only occupant of the 1995 Nissan Altima.

The operator of the 1994 Toyota Corolla Station Wagon was identified as Paul Charles Moler, 32, of St. Leonard.  A front seat passenger was identified as Christine A. Moler, 33.  Both occupants sustained minor injuries and were treated and released on the scene.

Moler's driving record includes being issued speeding tickets on three different occasions with one ticket issued as a result of causing a collision.

Police say that based on initial examination it appears that all persons involved were wearing restraining devices, that alcohol or drugs are not suspected and that no one was cited at the scene but traffic charges are possible.
