Jersey man charged in fatal boat accident
(Elkton, MD) — The operator of the 42-
foot motor vessel involved in a boating accident that
claimed the life of a Pennsylvania woman almost a year ago
has been charged in connection with her death.
The victim, Kristy Lynn Szewczak, 21, of
Philadelphia, Pa. was transported to Christiana Hospital
where she was pronounced dead Saturday evening, July 21,
2007.
A Grand Jury convened by the Cecil County
State’s Attorney held a hearing on this investigation on
Thursday, May 22, 2008 and indicted Mark D. Rosati, 51,
of Mount Laurel, N.J. On Monday, June 9, the Cecil County
Sheriff’s Office served Rosati with the indictment.
He was released on his own personal recognizance.
Rosati is charged with manslaughter by
vehicle or vessel, homicide by motor vehicle or vessel while
under the influence of alcohol or under the influence of
alcohol per se, homicide by motor vehicle or vessel while
impaired by alcohol, operating vessel in a reckless or
dangerous manner, reckless operation and negligent
operation.
Shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday, July
21, 2007, the Maryland Natural Resources Police responded to
the Elk River near Town Point for a collision between a
42-foot motor vessel and a personal watercraft (PWC).
Szewczak and Christopher J. Leight Jr., 30, of Warmingster,
Pa. occupied the PWC. Szewczak was transported to Christiana
Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Leight was flown to
the University of Maryland R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma
Center in critical condition. Rosati and his five passengers
were not injured.
The evidence and information developed by
the Maryland Natural Resources Police during the
investigation was presented to the office of Cecil County
State’s Attorney Christopher Eastridge. Eastridge presented
the case to the Grand Jury and the indictment was handed
down.

LEXINGTON PARK — St. Mary’s Sheriff’s
deputies report that the 7-11 just doesn’t want to see this
man’s mug on their premises any more but he keeps on coming
back, maybe he likes the coffee but it won’t work.

St. Mary’s. On June 12, 2008 Deputy Travis Bowes responded
to the 7-11 Store in Lexington Park, Maryland for a report
of a trespassing complaint.
Upon arrival, Deputy Bowes contacted an
employee of the 7-11 who stated Kevin Eugene Watts, 44 of
Lexington Park, Maryland was trespassing on the property
after being served with a no trespassing notice.
Deputy Boyer was also at the 7-11 Store
and observed Kevin Watts on the premise. Mr. Watts was
arrested and charged with trespassing.

CALIFORNIA — Police report that on June
12, 2008 Dfc. James Maguire responded to the Wal-mart in
California, Maryland for a theft complaint.
It was reported at an unknown time Steven
Rene Tharpe, Jr. 18 of Great Mills, Maryland stole items
from the store and on June 12, 2008 returned to the Wal-mart
and attempted to return items for cash.
When store security confronted Mr. Tharpe
about the stolen items he attempted to flee the store. Store
security caught and detained Tharpe until Dfc. Maguire
arrived. Steven Rene Tharpe, Jr. was charged with the theft.
While Dfc. Maguire was at the Wal-mart on
the theft complaint involving Steven Rene Tharpe, Jr.
another theft occurred at the Wal-mart. Dfc. Jason Maletto
was also at the Wal-mart when Robert Emanuel Clifford, 24 of
Lexington Park, Maryland attempted to flee the store with a
shopping cart containing numerous items. A foot chase ensued
and Dfc. Maletto chased and caught Mr. Clifford
approximately on hundred yards from the store. Robert
Emanuel Clifford was arrested and charged with theft.

LEXINGTON PARK — St. Mary’s Sheriff’s
spokesman Deputy Cindy Allen reports that perhaps a summer
job would be better for teens than selling dope. Police
report that on June 13, 2008 at approximately 12:45 am
Deputy James Stone was conducting a premise check in the
area of Old Missouri Street in Lexington Park, Maryland when
he observed a suspicious vehicle, occupied numerous times
parked in an unlit area. Deputy Stone investigated and
contacted the driver.
As Deputy Stone was speaking to the
driver he observed a purse on the floor board of the
vehicle. The purse was open and Deputy Stone could see large
plastic baggy containing suspected marijuana. Deputy Stone
obtained consent from the driver to search the vehicle.
Deputy Stone opened the passenger’s door
and recovered the plastic bag containing the suspected
marijuana.
Further investigation revealed a small
plastic bag containing a large amount of small green jewelry
bags which are often used to package controlled dangerous
substances.
Investigation revealed the purse and
items belonged to Tashara Marie Johnson, 18 of Lexington
Park, Maryland. Ms. Johnson was arrested and charged with
possession of marijuana and possession of controlled
dangerous substance paraphernalia.

Abner Locked Up for Banging on Daisy Mae!
BUDDS CREEK --- St. Mary’s Sheriff’s
spokesman Deputy Cindy Allen reports that on 06/11/08 Deputy
First Class Daniel Snyder responded to a residence of Budds
Creek Road in Mechanicsville to stand by while a property
owner served a tenant with an eviction notice.
Police say that upon arrival Dfc. Snyder
met Abner Giles Milam IV, 28 of Mechanicsville, Maryland.
Milam was served with a Protective Order
on May 5, 2008 preventing him from being at the petitioner’s
residence or having any contact with the petitioner listed
in the order.
The petitioner was at the residence on
Budds Creek Road and reported to Dfc. Snyder she was
assaulted by Abner Milam. Abner Milam was arrested and
charged with assault and violating the Protective Order.
Cain Slays Able
PORT REPUBLIC --- Calvert County Sheriffs and State
Police detectives report that a man blew away his brother
who was outside watching TV on the first day of June.
Police say that on
6/01/2008 at approximately 1740 hours a 911 call was
received in regards to shots fired on Southern Pine Lane,
Port Republic, Calvert County, Maryland. Upon arrival
members of the Maryland State Police – Prince Frederick
Barrack and the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office observed
Robert Chris Salvatore, 47 years old from Port Republic, to
have been shot several times in the neck and chest. Robert
Salvatore was pronounced dead at the scene.
Through investigation it was learned that
Ricky Joseph Salvatore, 50 years old from Port Republic, had
shot his brother while the victim was sitting in a folding
chair outside of the residence watching television. Ricky
Salvatore was taken into custody at the scene and was
charged with 1st degree murder, 2nd
degree murder and 1st degree assault. He is
currently being held at the Calvert County Detention Center
on no bond.
